Who knows why and how, but this children's story from a 2nd or 3rd grade English textbook has remained tucked away in a dusty corner of my memory shelving unit, but like that hideous red Christmas sweater you always come across when cleaning your closet, but can never seem to throw out, so Lentil sticks around, occasionally popping up to present mind whenever I think of lemons or harmonicas.
Mr. McCloskey's story is about a boy who cannot sing or even whistle. He longs to make music in some fashion,so he provides himself with a harmonica and practices constantly wherever he is, even in the bathtub, because there his tone is improved 100 percent. The timeless story is complemented with old school illustrations that remind me of my mother's stationery from the 60s, which I plan to scan tomorrow.
