"I told him many times (about) the political cost of doing this,” Emanuel said, according to the Chicago Tribune. “And thank God for the country, he didn’t listen to me” (via Huffington Post).

I read this after reading John Jeremiah Sullivan's essay on Rafinesque and Aubodon in Pulphead, which comes after the one on his Tea Party march ("American Grotesque") with his gazillionaire lobbyist cousin. He ends the essay with these words which I'd like to share because a) I can and b) it echoes Rahm's sentiments:
"I have to get back," [his cousin] said. "This is headed for a showdown on the floor next month. Now's when we go to work. Lots of breakfasts, lots of office sweep-throughs. A senator was predicting 'holy war.'
"The circumstaces and fortunes of men and families" said [Benjamin] Franklin, "are continually changing."
I hoped for my cousin to fail, and wished him luck.

From the Roads of America and Beyond

Wow, Mr. Sullivan. Wowowow.
He'd reeled me in with his caves essays in the Paris Review some issues ago, but now navigating through this collection is such a thrill.
I have to pack another book for my trip back home tomorrow because I know I will devour this on just the plane ride alone.

I should let you friends know in advance, before I see you and you wonder what's happened to my brain, that I'm really into time travel right now. I've been sifting through essays, watched Primer, Timecrimes and got these guys below on my shelf in addition to some Robert Heinlein, HG Wells, Connie Willism, Charles Yu and Julian May.

Men are mere mortals who are not worth going to your grave for.

When I Woke Up This Morning...

... you were on my mind:

Slowly But Elbette

Im slowly winning the love of the men at the Turkish restaurant by my office.
Today it was some baklava on the house, in one year's time I'll have my own table in the back where the mafiosos sit, and they'll be calling me "canim".

Flavor In Your Ear

There wasn't enough sesame in my strawberry sesame ice cream earlier. Now there isn't enough cinnamon in this orange cinnamon tea.
Don't involve ingredient #2 if you can't handle it, guys. I feel like the shepherd being cried wolf to... and one day soon, I'm just gonna stick to singularly flavored things... and a wolf will eat you.

I Saw The Rain Down In Africa

I wish I was in Africa right now.

... The same creative visionaries and artist directors of this video....

must have been responsible for this video....

Must have! The ominous piano intros must draw them in to accept the jobs, as they clearly inspired the overuse of lightning, fog and of course... motorcycles. Because who doesn't think of motorcycles when they think of romantic faraway castle shooting locations? As well as many, many long candles. They must have a deal cut with some type of perfect candle warehouses to aid the realization of these emotional musical productions.

About Me

My photo
I'm an LA transplant now living in Brooklyn. I develop film projects by day, write at night, and have a dangerous predilection for vintage Robinson Golluber scarves- this blog serves as a tiny window to everything else I do when I'm not satisfying those first three passions. I'm trying to blog more and tweet less @annabelleqv. What about you?
