"It's an institution!" cried Queridis.

After getting rained on with only one functional umbrella and caught in Midtown hell because of the Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting, we sought refuge in nearby Grand Central Station. Since dinnertime was also right around the corner, we ended up at its Oyster Bar thanks to on-point, spur of the moment decision-making on Querido's end. I had 6 oysters (Bluepoints being the best), a New England clam chowder and we shared a fried oyster appetizer. Querido had the oyster stew, which seemed very watered down but was still pretty good, the crab cake and, after expressing much curiosity regarding our neighbor's dish, tried the pretty sea urchin pictured below. I don't think this is the type of place you turn to for a supreme dining experience, so much as a classic New York experience. Nevertheless- the oysters were good, complete with all their savory accoutrements, and the beautiful retro decor has probably been untouched since the place opened in 1913 (especially the actual bar area where we sat). You can expect a nice variety of seafood dishes, a cozy atmosphere with pleasant lighting and characteristic vaulted ceilings, and lots of older fancy ladies.

About Me

My photo
I'm an LA transplant now living in Brooklyn. I develop film projects by day, write at night, and have a dangerous predilection for vintage Robinson Golluber scarves- this blog serves as a tiny window to everything else I do when I'm not satisfying those first three passions. I'm trying to blog more and tweet less @annabelleqv. What about you?
